Janis is in his 12th season with Oakton's baseball program, his sixth as the head coach of the varsity team ... He is just the third varsity baseball coach in the program's 47-year history, following Tom Hall (1968-99) and Scott Rowland (2000-08) ... Enters the 2014 season having led the Cougars to a 68-47 record through his first five seasons ... Last spring, led the team to their second Concorde District championship since he took the helm ... Team finished 21-6 after advancing the the Northern Region championship game and the Group AAA state semfinals, where the Cougars fell to Hanover ... Has led the Cougars to a regional tournament berth in each of the past four seasons ... Also led team to a Concorde District championship and a berth in the regional quarterfinals in 2011 ... A 1997 graduate of Oakton, previously served as an assistant coach under Rowland from 2003-08 ... Also served as an assistant coach at York College in Pennsylvania in 2002, as an assistant with the Vienna Mustangs of the Clark C. Griffith Collegiate Baseball League during the summer of 2002 and 2003, as a head coach of the Vienna Mustangs (2008) and NVTBL Stars (2012) travel programs, and last summer served as the head coach of the Herndon Braves of the Cal Ripken Collegiate Baseball League ... Also coached football at Oakton from 2002-04 ... Was an all-district baseball and football player at the school, and later a team captain and All-Capital Athletic Conference selection at York ... Works as a teacher at Oakton ... Resides in Herndon with his wife, Leigh, and their son, John.
