Katie Shanahan
Head Varsity Coach
Varsity Cheerleading
Ms. Kathryn Shanahan is the new Head coach at Oakton High School. As a Cougar herself she is excited to continue her tradition of cougar spirit. She began her cheerleading career at Oakton after being involved in dance most of her life. After Graduation in 2001, Ms. Shanahan was honored to attend Virginia Tech where she earned her Bachelors degree in Human Development and then a Masters degree in Curriculum and Instruction. Although she was the Spirit chairman during recruitment in the tri-delta Sorority, she missed cheerleading and had dreams of becoming an Oakton Cheerleading coach. Upon graduation, she was offered a teaching job at Oakton Elementary School as a third grade teacher, and also was hired as an assistant coach for the Oakton high School cheerleading program. In 2007 she was offered the Junior Varsity cheer coach position which she coached for a year. She now lives in Bristow with her husband Ryan and their dog Taylor.
