The Cougar ladies opened their district play with a win against the Herndon Hornets.

After working through first inning jitters that allowed the Hornets two unearned runs, the Cougars shut them out the rest of the game.  Defensive highlights included pitcher Allison Davis’ 12 strikeouts in 7 innings, including striking out the side in the 2^nd and 5^th innings.

Offensively, the Cougars were swinging their bats and getting on base.  Oakton managed to take the lead in the third inning.  Singles by Emily Corridon and Emily Krisanda got the Cougars on base and quick footwork at stealing put them at 2^nd and 3^rd.  Allison Davis’ double brought in Emily Corridon, Mandy Krage’s single brought in Emily Krisanda, and Hayley French laid down a bunt to bring in Allison Davis.  The Cougars took the lead 3-2.  In the fourth inning, Emily Corridon laid down a bunt which enabled Becky Cerva to reach 3^rd on an overthrow and round on to home.  The Cougars entered the 6^th inning with a 4-2 lead.  For the 6^th inning finale, Emily Krisanda hit her first OHS season game out-of-the-park homerun, and brought in Emily Corridon with her.  The final score was 6-2. 

Emily Corridon, the Cougar lead off batter, went 3 for 4 appearances at the plate, and other hits included a single by Michelle Doran.

The Cougars are 2-2 for the season, with a 1-0 district record.
