Oakton traveled to Ram territory, and could not pull off a win, as they had in their previous meeting.
With Allison Davis not yet returning to the mound, Alana Peters started the Cougars off and Becky Cerva finished the game. The Lady Cougars held the Rams to one run in the first, one in the second, but allowed 4 runs in the 4th. Several Rams reached on error, mainly due to overthrows and other fielding errors. Robinson batters laid down great bunts to advance and plate their runners. They took extra bases on passed balls, and by capitalizing on Cougar errors, they were able to dominate the game.
Offensively, the Cougars could not get within scoring position until the fourth inning. With 3 batters reaching on walks, Abby Mills’ double plated Allison Davis and Hayley French. Mary Kate Mehegan’s single plated Kelsea Sinnett and Mills. In the fifth inning, with a full count, Emily Krisanda grounded a single past short stop. The next two batters reached on walks. Even with bases loaded, the Cougars could not score additional runs and the inning ended with 3 stranded runners. Entering the 6th inning with the score 4-7, the Cougars had some work to do. After Mehegan and Emily Corridon reached on walks, Krisanda scored Mehegan with a single, bringing the score to 5-7.
