The Cougars traveled to Centreville territory to face the Wildcats for their second meeting this season.
With Allison Davis still recovering, Becky Cerva was called to the mound. The Cougars got out of the first inning with no hits. In the second inning, with 5 batters seen, 3 reached on error, resulting in 2 unearned runs. Pumped up, Centreville came back in the third, and managed to get 3 more runs, bringing the score to 5-0. A no-hitter fourth was followed by a great fifth, in which not only were the Cougars gloves magnetic, but the only hitter was picked off by catcher Mandy Krage while attempting to steal 2nd. In the sixth, the Wildcats scored another run, notching a total of 6 against the Cougars.
The Lady Cougars got some early hits, but could not score until the fifth inning rally when Angie Noviello led off with a single, Mary Kate Mehegan reached on a fielder’s choice, and Emily Corridon singled. On a pop fly to RF, Emily Krisanda plated Noviello. Allison Davis reached with a walk to load the bases with 2 outs remaining. Though the next two batters made contact, they popped in the air and the Wildcat gloves snagged them to end the inning at 1-5. With no scoring opportunities in the 6th, the Cougars came back in the 7th ready to score some runs. Kelsea Sinnett doubled, Corridon singled, and then Krisanda singled. Mehegan, who was a courtesy runner for Sinnett, got picked off trying to score.
Other hits: Single and double by Krisanda (going 3 for 4), and a double by Cerva.
Defensive plays: Great pick at 2nd by Krage. Expert outfield catches by Davis, Mehegan and Corridon.
