Oakton vs. Centreville
Oakton faced Centreville in a Concorde District Semi Final match-up and walked away with a convincing 7-3 win.
Centreville struck first in the second inning with a single and an eventual score after a passed ball. They did so again in the third inning after a lead-off triple led to a score off of a sacrifice fly; this made the score 2-0 in the top of the third inning.
The Cougar bats came alive in the bottom of the third inning after consecutive singles by Becky Cerva and Mary Kate Mehegan. Allison Davis then reached base on an infield error, but several Wildcat throwing errors on the same play put the ball in the outfield, allowing Oakton to clear the bases with Cerva, Mehegan and Davis all crossing the plate for a 3-2 lead.
In the fourth inning Emily Stangeby was walked and eventually scored on a passed ball after stealing third base. Becky Cerva reached first on an error and was knocked in for the second run of the inning after Mary Kate Mehegan hit safely for a single, giving Oakton a 5-2 lead.
Oakton scored two more runs in the sixth inning after Jaime Arbesfeld walked and was driven home by Mehegan. Becky Cerva walked and eventually reached third base and then scored off of a passed ball to increase the lead to 7-2.
Centreville led off the seventh inning with a double and scored following another single, but the game ended at 7-3 with Oakton advancing to play Chantilly in the District Finals.
Allison Davis pitched for Oakton, striking out three Wildcats while allowing one walk and five hits during the game.
