COUGARS SHUT-OUT RAMS IN DISTRICT TOURNAMENT SEMI-FINALS

Oakton traveled to Westfield for the District Semi-Finals Tournament against Robinson.

Sophomore pitcher Allison Davis was in the circle, and the team’s confidence level soared as the first three Robinson batters were retired.  Although Robinson’s third baseman, Kelsea Sinnett, singled to start the second inning, Davis retired the next three batters and left her stranded.  Three-up and three-down in the next three innings.  In the sixth, Kacie Townsend singled, and was thrown out attempting to steal 2nd by a flawless throw (senior catcher Mandy Krage) and tag (junior short stop Emily Krisanda).

The Cougar scoring rally came alive in the second inning with senior third baseman Hayley French hitting a line drive double, then advancing on senior left fielder Angie Noviello’s SAC bunt, and scoring on the over-the-fence homerun by sophomore designated hitter Alana Peters (2RBI).  Junior right fielder Mary Kate Mehegan and sophomore second baseman Becky Cerva each walked, and Davis reached to load the bases.  Krisanda doubled (3RBI) to left field plating Mehegan, Cerva, and Davis.  In the third, French led off with a triple down the right field line and scored on Mehegan’s slap through second base (RBI).  The rally continued in the fourth as Krisanda walked, French singled, and Peters drove in Krisanda with a single (RBI).  In the fifth Corridon singled, moved to 2nd on Cerva’s SAC bunt, and scored on Davisbouncer-off-the-wall double (RBI).  Davis advanced on an illegal pitch and scored on Krage’s SAC fly (RBI).  In the sixth, and last at-bat for the Cougars, Peters helped herself to another over-the-wall homer to bring the score to 10-0.

Additional hits:

Singles by Corridon (2), Cerva (2), and Krisanda, SAC by Krage.

Allison Davis pitched a shut-out, striking-out 7 of 23 batters in 7 innings.

The first-seed Cougars advance to the District Championship on Monday night at 6:30 against Chantilly, at Chantilly High School.  Come and show your support!
