COUGARS SHUTOUT STALLIONS AND ADVANCE TO REGIONAL FINALS

Even through some intense moments, Oakton's defense held South County scoreless.  In the third, with 2 singles and a walk, the Stallions loaded the bases.  On two outs, senior catcher Mandy Krage caught the straight-up foul pop about 6 inches from the fence along the right field foul line to end the inning.    

In the three-hitter shutout she pitched, sophomore Allison Davis fanned the side in the 2^nd and 7^th innings and retired the side in the 4^th and 8^th innings.  She struck out 16 and walked 2 of 30 batters in 8 innings.

Offensively, the Lady Cougars were not making the needed connections to get on base.  The scoring rally in the 8^th started with lead-off senior center fielder Emily Corridon beating her bunt to base.  She advanced on sophomore second baseman Becky Cerva’s SAC, and then Davis walked.  On two outs, Krage singled to score Corridon.  Senior third baseman Hayley French added a single plating Davis.  Sophomore designated player Alana Peters singled to score sophomore Marleigh Hall (entering for Krage on the bases).  Once again, the Cougars demonstrated how they roll on two outs.

Next up:  The Cougars face Stone Bridge as they advance to the Northern Regional Tournament Championship on Friday, June 1, 4 pm, at Madison High School. 

Both teams have secured a berth in the State Championship Tournament, quarter finals on Tuesday, June 5, TBD.
