Cougars Gored by the Robinson Rams, 8-1

The Oakton Cougars fell 8-1 to the Robinson Rams in a Conference 5 home game on May 6.  The Cougars’ bats produced 8 hits, but they were so scattered throughout the game that they produced only one run.

After retiring the Rams 1-2-3 in the top of the first inning, the Cougars threatened in their first at-bat with singles by shortstop Caroline Brogan and pitcher Alana Peters.  But at inning’s end, the Cougar runners were left stranded on base.

The Rams took the lead in the top of the second inning on a walk and an RBI single.  The Cougars had no answering runs in the second, third, or fourth innings, despite singles hit by first baseman Cheyenne Van Pelt and Peters, and a double to left field hit by right fielder Marleigh Hall.

In the fifth inning, the Rams added another run, making the score 2-0.  Cougar senior Allison Davis responded with a two-out double to left field, which Peters followed with a single to left center, scoring Davis and making the score 2-1 after five innings.

The Rams battered the game open in the next inning, scoring six runs on three hits.  The Cougars again had no answering runs in the sixth or seventh innings, as only one batter, center fielder Linda Lyons, reached base with a bunt single.
