Cougars Devoured by Hawks
The Oakton Cougars were outshone by the Hayfield Hawks 20 - 1. The game was played at night in 35 degree temperatures at Hayfield Secondary School as the second game of a Saturday double header in the annual Hayfield Spring Tournament. The Cougars were home team based on a coin toss. Due to tournament time limits, the game concluded after four innings.
The Cougar bats never emerged during this game. Shortstop Sami Bassett supplied the lone Cougar hit, which produced the only Cougar run. Bassett singled to center field in the third inning to drive in pitcher Brittany Thomas, who had reached base on a fielder’s choice.
The Cougars played fairly well on defense, making only three errors against the powerfully hitting Hawks team. But in the end, the Cougars were outmatched by the more experienced Hawks team.
