Rams Rout the Cougars
The Oakton Cougars played an away game against the conference-leading Robinson Rams on May 6, and lost 17-1 in a run-rule-shortened game.
Robinson’s strong pitching and error-free defense showed why they are the best team in the conference this year as they kept the Cougars off the bases for most of the game. The Cougars offensive started off in a promising manner during the first inning when center fielder Emily Kamienski led off with a triple and pitcher Taylor Fay brought her home with an RBI single. DP and relief pitcher Brittany Thompson followed with a single of her own, putting runners on first and second. Left fielder Danni Nichols moved Fay and Thompson to third and second bases on an infield ground out, but Fay and Thompson were unmoved from there before the Cougar at-bat ended.
The Rams pitcher settled down after the first inning, allowing only two more Cougar hits for the rest of the game: a single by right fielder Marissa Sanzone in the fourth inning and a double by first baseman Linda Lyons in the fifth inning. The Rams offense, in contrast, broke the game open in the third inning by scoring nine runs on five hits and four walks, aided by three Cougar errors.
