Cougars Lose to the Chantilly Chargers in Conference First-Round Playoff Game

In the final high school game for Oakton seniors Taylor Fay, Sami Bassett, Danni Nicholls, and Emily Kamienski, the Oakton Cougars were knocked out of the Conference 5 playoff tournament by the Chantilly Chargers.  The Chargers played a very solid game on both offense and defense and earned a solid win.

The Cougars managed six hits during the game, including three by shortstop Sami Bassett in her best offensive game of the season.  The Cougar hits, however, were mostly scattered in different innings, so only one run resulted.  This score came when Kamienski reached first base on a fielder’s choice; advanced to second on an infield ground ball by right fielder Linda Lyons, reached third on a Charger error, and was driven in on a sacrifice fly to center field hit by Nicholls.

This season, two Cougar players were selected for All Conference honors in VHSL Conference 5:

Taylor Fay: second team, All Conference, infield; and

Emily Kamienski: second team, All Conference, outfield.
