Rams Butt the Cougars
The Oakton Cougars lost to the visiting Robinson Rams by the score of 5 - 1. This loss moves Oakton’s conference record to 2 wins, 2 losses, and makes their overall record 5 wins, 7 losses.
Although the two teams played about equally well on defense, Robinson simply out-hit the Cougars on offense in the second half of the game.
The first three innings were scoreless as each team went through 12 batters without producing a run. The only Cougar hits during this stretch were a single by left fielder Nicole Berube and a double by first baseman Jo Jo Felix.
Robinson broke away to a four-run lead by scoring two runs during the tops of the fourth and fifth innings. Oakton put up their only run in the bottom of the fifth inning when catcher Kelly Dunlap led off with a single to left field, second baseman Katie Edwards joined her with a single to left field, and Dunlap later scored on a fielder’s choice. Robinson later put up an insurance run in the top of the seventh inning to make the final score 5 – 1.
Natalie Felix started in the circle for Oakton. Lili Vasquez relieved Felix in the sixth and pitched two fine innings, allowing 2 hits and no earned runs.
The Cougars are off for the rest of this week due to the Westfield game being rescheduled to next Wednesday.
