Congrats to our players for going undefeated in the regular season!  Even with weather issues, potential prom conflicts, and senior night confusion, we had a great day on court!  All of our seniors played Varsity matches and won!

Thanks to all who planned and unplanned the senior night event.  The cake will go into the freezer and come out for our party in a few weeks!

Practice tomorrow at 2:30

4/30 - Match @ home vs. Herndon 3:30 this afternoon.

5/1 - Rain date for this match with Herndon.  Because it is Oakton's prom night, we will hold off senior night until everyone can be with us to celebrate.  This will be done at our end of the year team party!

Monday begins the conference tournament @ Oakton:  singles @ 3:30, and doubles @ 5:00

On what was probably the best weather day for tennis this season, the Cougars took on the Chargers.

Singles began with Adrien on 1 playing Jeff Li.  It was the best match of the day.  Lots of grinding points that showcased the talent on both sides.  Neck and neck until Adrien pulled away and took the court 10-7!  Court 2 brought Vishal a tough opponent in Josh Melynk.  It was tight through the first 1/2 of the set, and then Josh ran away with the final games.  Meanwhile on 3-6 the Cougars were up early and really never looked back.  All 4 were won decisively.  Thanks to Nicholas, Josh, Tommy, and Alex.  Doubles also went the Cougar way with Tommy/Reed on 2 playing a very focused and thoughtful match, 10-2, and the Twins on 3 getting their W, although letting a new more games go, 10-5.  Adrien/Vishal on 1 were on serve at 5-4 and only let one more game go.  W at 8-5.  The math says we won 8-1!!!!

Thanks to our exhibition players who won every match tonight, as we have come to expect....

Snack families get kudos for continuing to bring plenty of food for the team.

THURSDAY - FINAL REGULAR SEASON MATCH @ HOME AGAINST HERNDON - **SENIOR NIGHT**

FRIDAY - LAST REGULAR SEASON PRACTICE 2:30

Windy and cold described the weather today at Centreville HS.  The team took the courts with high spirits and without our top 3 players.  Didn't matter....  Thanks to Josh who played #1 today!  Look out Adrien!   Tommy at 2, Alex at 3, AV at 4, Reed at 5, and BPa at 6.  All convincing wins.  Doubles went to 8 games and Tommy/Reed on 1, The twin towers on 2, and YEA Michael and William on 3.  3 dubs bageled their opponents.

It looks easy on paper, but the wind forced our cougars to work hard and focus.  They had to really think about strategy and play smart!

Also as usual our exhibitions went well.  Everyone had a win today, and Calvin had a partner, AV, who used his wooden racquet!!  Yup, for real!

Practice tomorrow @ 2:30

Rain cancelled much of the practice today, but we did manage to finish 1 and 2 doubles from last week's match with Chantilly.  Adrien/Vishal won 8-5, and Reed/Tommy won 8-3.  That made the team score 8-1!

Tomorrow we go to Centreville for our match.  Bus leaves door 6 @ 2:30.

On the best weather day this season our Cougars take down the rams on all 6 singles courts!  Thanks to Adrien, Vishal, Josh, Tommy, Alex, and Avery V.   With 6 decisive wins in the bag, Oakton wins the match....

Doubles start with the twin towers, Alex and Charlie,  literally plowing through the opponents and another 10-1 W.  2 Dubs with Tommy and Reed is the usual game for game in the first quarter, and then the break away for a solid 10-4 win.  Court 1 got off to a seriously slow start, down 2-7,  and made their way back to 7-9 before running out of time!

Our cougars playing exhibitions also had their share of winning!  Thanks as always to our parents who are our biggest fans and bring food!

Congrats to the team today for a 9-0 win!

 Thanks to Adrien, Vishal, Nicholas, Kevin, William and Michael for singles victories.  Doubles contributed wins 7-9 with Tommy/Reed. Charlie/Alex, and Avery O/Brandon winning in high style!  Our one exhibition match scored a win for Dustin/Nam, and the final score of the day was a win for Patrick playing our own Avery V.  

Tomorrow is Robinson at home.  Get ready for competition.  Match begins at 3:30.

This afternoon the team brought in our 5th regular season win!

Thanks to our singles players, Avery V. on 6, Big D (Alex) on 5, Tommy on 4.  Each of these three didn't lose more than a game!  Josh on 3 had a fairly long match with drawn out exhausting points.  They were even through the first half before Josh put the pedal down for a 10-5 win.  We have four wins at this point.  Nicholas on 2 worked steadily and played a smart game and kept his opponent to 2 games!  That's 5 and the match is officially over.  Vishal on 1 had a slow start and went down to the opponent he beat the first time they played.

Doubles brought us 3 more wins with Vishal/Tommy on court 1 winning 10-4, The twin towers on court 2 taking almost all the games (minus 2!), and newcomers K.Liu/Patrick on 3 winning at 10-2 as well!

Congratulations to all our exhibition players!  With Westfield having only 2 extra players,  many of you played your teammates.  It might have been the most competitive tennis of the day!

Thanks to Mr. Mummareddy for bringing both ice cream and pizza to our hungry young men.  The weather cooperated a good day was had by all!  Enjoy the weekend.

I apologize for not having the cancelation update on this page yesterday.  I sent it from my phone but somehow it didn't connect.....  I am guessing there wasn't much question as it rained all day!

Match makeup is scheduled for Monday 4/20 with bus leaving at 2:30.

As of 10:30 today the match has not been canceled.  If the rain continues to fall, we will reschedule possibly as soon as tomorrow (Wed.).  I will update as I get information.  Thank you for your patience :)

As of now, 10:30, our match with Herndon has not been canceled.  However, I think it will be with rain forecast all day long.  I will update as soon as I hear anything from Oakton.  Possible reschedule for tomorrow.

Monday - Practice 2:30,   Tuesday - Away match against Herndon, bus leaves at 2:30,    Wed - Practice 2:30, ********Thursday - 2 hr. early dismissal  We will leave door 6 at 1:30 for our Westfield match instead of 2:30*********    Friday - No School.  Practice time TBD but we WILL practice.

On what could have been a rainout day, our Oakton Cougars take down the Chargers with 5 singles wins.  Thanks to Adrien, Vishal, Josh, Tommy, and Avery.  Courts 1, 4, 5, and 6 worked over their opponents efficiently and without event.  Nick on 3 had a very tough match against Josh Melnyk and got 5 games off him.  Vishal on 2 had the match of the day with Sean Moran.  He was down 2-5 early and got it back on serve .  From there it was neck and neck with breaks of serve.  At 8-9 Vishal held to bring it to 9 all.  He then broke and went on to serve out the set at 11-9!  Very exciting tennis.    Dub's 3 got in the win (10-1) to make 6 wins before the sky opened up and ended the day.  

All the Cougars playing exhibition got another W for the match!!  Nice job.

Thanks to Calvin for the pizza.  Also thanks to the fans and family who came out on a not so nice afternoon to see some entertaining tennis!

THE CONFERENCE TENNIS TOURNAMENT WILL BE HELD AT OAKTON HS ON MAY 4-7.  RAIN DATES ARE WEEKEND OF MAY 7-8    PLEASE KEEP YOUR CALENDAR OPEN AND BE AVAILABLE FOR ALL DATES.  THANK YOU

After hours of wondering if we would get the match in,  the mist stopped falling, and the wind blew the courts dry.  Centreville got to Oakton late, and the match didn't begin until 3:45.  All 6 singles courts were won by Cougars in under an hour.....  with no one losing more than 2 games.  Pretty impressive.  Thanks to Vishal, Nick, Josh, Tommy, Reed and AV!

Dubs followed with similar success.  Court 3 started off early with the big men, Charlie and Alex.  They imposed themselves on young players who looked fairly overwhelmed.  A big 10-0 followed.   Court one had a fun match with good opponents who enjoyed the moment.  Court 2 also made quick work on their court and that made for 9!

Every exhibition match was won with room to spare, and Pizza was had for all!

Thanks to the fans and family who braved the early spring weather.  Let's keep fingers crossed for decent weather on Friday when we play Chantilly at home.

We will play today providing the rain holds off.  The call will be made around 2:00.  The players will be notified at school if we cancel.

We will have practice on Monday April 6th @ 2:00.  Please come prepared to play challenge matches.  The singles/doubles lineups are NOT set at this point.  If you are interested in keeping/challenging for a varsity spot,  be available. If you are not going to attend, let me know by email or text.

HAPPY SPRING BREAK TO OUR TEAM!  WE WILL PRACTICE ON TUESDAY APRIL 7 AND GET IN SOME CHALLENGING THEN.  OUR NEXT MATCH IS AT HOME ON WED. APRIL 8TH AGAINST CENTREVILLE.   PLEASE PLAY SOME TENNIS BETWEEN NOW AND THEN!

It was a great day for Cougar tennis!  The boys traveled to Robinson HS and took it to the Rams.  Winning 4 of the 6 singles matches put us in a position of just needing one doubles!  Nice, right?  Better when your doubles teams are determined and solid.  Even with a few slow starts, we took all the doubles for a team win of 7-2.

Thanks also to our many talented players who are currently playing exhibition,  and who are close to making the varsity matches.  You are integral members of the team and give me so many options.  Keep playing well.

Lastly thanks to our parents and fans who cheer us on and FEED the boys!

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE TEAM FOR A 8-1 VICTORY OVER THE BULLDOGS!

WINNING IN SINGLES IS ALWAYS TERRIFIC!  WINNING ALL 6 SINGLES COURTS IS VERY UNUSUAL.

WELL DONE BY ALL COUGARS PLAYING VARSITY SINGLES.

 THE BOYS FOLLOWED UP WITH STRONG DOUBLES MATCHES WINNING  DECISIVELY  AT BOTH 2 AND 3 .  COURT 1 DUBS HAD NEVER PLAYED TOGETHER BEFORE AND WERE JUST GETTING INTO A  GROOVE TOWARD THE MATCH END.  8-1 IS A GREAT START TO THE SEASON!

Tomorrow is the season opener against Westfield.  Match time is 3:30 at OHS.  I hope to see some of you out supporting the team!

Trying to prepare and set the lineups for both singles and doubles has been a challenge so far in the early going... The weather has not been kind for tennis, and many of the players have already been out due to illness, dental appts., and most often tardy because of numerous make-up tests.  Today more than a third of the team missed practice.  I am asking for help in this area.  Parents please remind your son that missing practice means lost opportunity to challenge for a varsity match.  It will matter on match days.  Tomorrow I will go with the results that I currently have, and these will likely change with more challenging/practice days.

Many thanks to May Wu for getting our team uniforms in time for the first match!!  Awesome job.  Additionally thanks for arranging the team snacks.  Much gratitude to Sara Olsen for taking on both booster and banquet rep. positions.  It will take assistance from every family to reach our goals, and cover the team's needs.  Please contact me if you can help out in any area, or if you have questions/concerns.

Lastly, thank you for encouraging your young men to challenge themselves in life and in sport.
